Deputy Prime Minister of Jamaica Trade Visit

On Tuesday 20th of April 2010 the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Trade of Jamaica Dr.Kenneth Baugh made a courtesy call to Wanis, Afro Caribbean Food Specialist, as part of his tour of  UK to promote trade between the two countries.

As a major player in importing Jamaican food & drinks, the Minister was keen to visit Wanis to tour our state of the art wholesale and warehouse distribution facility.  Pulling out all the stops to make their distinguished guests feel at home, MD Sanjay Wadhwani said:

“Wanis were delighted to have the Minister visit us. By coming to us it underlines our contribution as a promoter of the very best in Jamaican food & drink.  We exclusively distribute iconic brands like Bigga, Dragon Stout, Miracle, St. Mary’s Banana Chips and Tropical Sun as well as selling many other of the island’s most loved brands. Wanis are excited about collaborating with the Minister to drive trade by building on our expertise and using the Ministry’s resources to help resolve trade issues.”

Marketing manager Adejare Adesanya comments “At Wanis we pride ourselves on having an unrivalled and diverse Afro Caribbean product range.  And whilst we stock brands from around the world we recognise the crucial role that brand Jamaica plays in growing the ethnic food category.  Through our warehouse facility, distribution outlets, retail networks, brands and expertise, Wanis are perfectly placed to help nurture this sector.”

Donning a high visibility safety jacket the Deputy Prime Minister toured the direct wholesale side of Wanis.  As usual it was buzzing with trade customers packing their trolleys to point of overflowing with Caribbean produce.  As the Minister walked around he commented on how pleased he was to see so much Jamaican produce being bought. On several occasions he even stopped to meet customers and thank them for supporting the Jamaican food & drinks industry.

Having had a great day, the Deputy Prime Minister concluded his visit by saying. “I came to visit Wanis to personally thank them for the support that they have given to the Jamaican food industry. Wanis are the biggest buyers of our ackee in Europe, and as Caribbean food becomes more prominent in the UK, their role in Jamaica Trade and Industry will become even more important. I'm proud of Wanis flying the flag for Jamaica and reaching out to the Jamaican diaspora.”
